Birthday Goodies!

Yesterday was fantastic. My boyfriend and I spent the day together since it was my birthday. First he took me out to breakfast, which really wasn't all that fantastic since I still can't eat anything that isn't soft. Cheese grits and apple sauce really aren't that filling!

After breakfast we first stopped to pick up my mother's birthday present, since her birthday is on Friday. I found the cutest pink and black polkadot wrapping paper for her gift, and I can't wait to use it!

From there we drove to the next city over so he could take me shopping. He's never been good with buying gifts - he is the type that would rather I pick out exactly what I want and take all of the guesswork out of it.

First stop was a shoe store. Unfortunately, they didn't have what I wanted. Neither did any other store in the mall. Yeah, still searching for those perfect pair of track shoes. On the upside, I did find this cute bag:

It looks a little odd laying flat, but it looks much better when filled and hanging. This is the much needed replacement for my poor ripped boho bag that I shared a few entries back.
He also got me some new earrings!

Epic iPhone camera fail!

I only got my ears pierced last February, so the world of earrings is entirely new to me. Unfortunately for me, I got mine done at a gauge from the get go. I've got 16 gauge hoops in right now, when the average post for normal earrings ranges from an 18 to a 20. I had problems with the posts, especially the crowns, because if I didn't use both hands (one to hold it in, one to put the back on), it would fall out. Same with the wings. I wasn't going to put the plastic pieces on the back of the hooks (I didn't know I needed them), but my mind was quickly changed after I turned my head to look at something and the earring flew right out of my ear.
I also proved to myself I have not only poor depth perception, but size perception. Those wings go almost all of the way down to my shoulders. I thought the other two sets were smaller, too, but they are pretty honkin' big. They look lovely, though. Now it comes down to growing accustomed to the weight. My normal hoops are very light, so much so that I can't feel them.

Our last two stops were to the game store (where I picked up FFX-2), and then to the perfume shop to pick up a bottle of my Harajuku Lovers. I wasn't fully pleased with it, so I did take a moment to test out a few new scents (which all smelled like cocktails and hairspray). In my browsing I found Covet by SJP, which used to be my favorite scent. It has been about two years since I've seen it, leading me to think that it had been discontinued. In my happiness, I purchased the largest bottle they had.

After shopping, we wanted to see a movie. The only one currently showing there that I really wanted to see was A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas in 3D, but the only showing was at 10:35 PM and it was only 5:00 when we finished our shopping. I'm a little irritated that they had nearly six simultaneous showings of the newest Twilight movie, yet only one showing of Harold and Kumar. Then again, they are doing what is in their best financial interest, so I suppose I should understand given that I am in sales myself. Rather than settling for something I wouldn't be pleased with, we decided to journey home.

Not long after I got home my mother gave me a goodie bag full of useful things (like body wash and razors), and my brother and sis came by with my niece. We all spent some time together before they had to go take my niece home so she could go to bed (little miss loves to go to bed early so she can get up early for school). My boyfriend and I ended the night with The Hangover. Now I can't wait to watch The Hangover II!

All in all, I had a fantastic birthday. Between spending the day with my boyfriend, the few telephone calls I received, and all of the facebook messages, I really felt special on my birthday for the first time in years.

Day 03 - Your Favorite Brush

I've only recently started really using brushes, so I don't have a very large amount of experience that I do have, but my favorite so far is my Femme Couture Mineral Effects Kabuki Brush (which you can get here). It is very soft to the touch and blends all of my powders perfectly.

I wish there was more to this entry, but how much can one really say about a brush? It suits it's purpose, and it's a pretty decent deal for the price.

Day 02 - Your Favorite Bag

This was an easy one:

I love this bag more than any of my others because all of my crap fits in it, haha. Believe me, I carry way too many things when I leave the house. Unfortunately I've got to fix it (where the strap is coming loose) and haven't gotten around to it.

This is one of my bargain finds. I picked this up on sale for $12 at a Walmart some months ago. It's fake leather, though I don't mind that. The only criteria I had when looking was 'it holds my stuff without looking like something an 80 year old woman would carry'. It was love at first sight.

Day 01 - Your Favorite Eyeliner

I am terrible about eyeliner. I love it more than any other type of makeup (except for possibly mascara), so when I get it I like to buy the best I can get.

So far my favorite has been Chanel's Liquid Eye Lines in Noir, pictured below.

This is one of the products I discovered in high school. For me, it is important that my eye makeup lasts all day. I've got generally oily skin, and in true fashion for lower end products most of the products I've tried have either worn off by noon or have smeared without me touching my eye area. Not this! It is completely unaffected by my oily skin and my random tears during touching movies. It even outlasts random Florida rain showers!

Another bonus is the ease of application. I am not very good at liquid liner, so I have to get in there and get the job done in one fell swoop and hope I don't smudge before it dries. This is very quick drying, which made it became my total go-to liner almost right off the bat. The only downside to the quick dry is if you mess up it can be tough to get off without a really good eye makeup remover (water doesn't do the job, obviously), so keep a good remover and cotton swabs on hand for any accidents.

If memory serves right, this retails for about $32 a bottle (holy high-liner, Batman!), but it is one of those products that I think is worth every penny. Mine lasted me quite a while, about six months or so with once or twice daily application, which makes me consider it a good investment. Keep in mind I wore this stuff during my 'gother than thou' days, so I caked it on, haha.

I have yet to find any drugstore brand that even compares. If anyone knows of something that does compare, please let me know. Seeing as I'm a full time college student on a limited income, I am unable to splurge on my favorites like I did when I was working full time.

Birthday Mini-Haul: Sally Beauty

Did an uber-mini haul from Sally Beauty Supply. Tomorrow is my birthday and I wanted some new polishes to wear for my mini-birthday holiday.

China Glaze in Below Deck
First I fell in love with this color. It looks a little lighter in the bottle than what it looks like when on, but I love the almost heather color. I put this one on not ten minutes after I got home with it. Just as I've grown to love from China Glaze, it was easy to go on, darkened up nicely after two coats, and dried extremely fast.

China Glaze Cha Cha Cha
This is the second color that caught my eye. Anyone who has known me for years knows I have this diehard love of the show Cabaret, particularly one Miss Sally Bowles. Sally paints her nails green, so for years I've been in search of the perfect Sally Bowles green. I think I may have found it! It has a lot of sparkle in the bottle, so I hope that comes out more muted when on.

Last but not least, I needed a new liner brush.

Face Secrets Concealer/Liner brush
I'm starting to really fall in love with brushes over using the applicators that come with the various producs. If you look closely at the tip of the brush it has a very fine contour, which will be perfect for the powder liner I've been using from my Physician's Formula palette, wich can be found in this entry.

For my birthday tomorrow, the boyfriend and I are going out of town so I can do a little shopping. Not two days after my adidas blew out their shell top, my Chucks started to fall apart. I have had those since 2003, so I am beyond shocked that they have lasted this long. Tomorrow I am going to search for some new shoes (I am down to one pair of work shoes now), and for some foundation that won't make me break out like mad. One last goodie I have to get before I leave is a new bottle of perfume. I've worked my way through almost everything I have, with Harajuku Lovers G and Love being the last two standing. I need something that will last all day, and neither of the Harajuku Lovers truly cut it.

Does anyone have any good foundation recommendations for sensitive skin that is prone to breakouts? I've tried Clinique, but that didn't go very well. I am tied between going back to my old standby of Chanel, or trying Mac. I have heard endless good things about Mac and want to try it for myself.

Tag: Get Your Freak On

I just watched a tag video from Jen over at From Head To Toe titled Get Your Freak On, which is fifteen weird facts about yourself, and decided I wanted to do it too. Unfortunately, I don't have a camera, so I am just going to answer the list of questions since they are all so much fun.

#1. What's a nickname only your family calls you?

I don't really have a name that only my family calls me. My Dad has one name for me (Stink - think Bugs Bunny "Ain't I a stinker?"), and then my Granny calls me Toodles. I have no idea where that one came from. Everyone else just calls me by my name.

#2. What's a weird habit of yours?

I'm not sure if this is a real weird habit, or if it's just my OCD rearing it's ugly head, but when I'm writing all of my letters have to look just right to me. It's not unusual for me to erase a letter or word and write it over and over again until it looks absolutely perfect in my mind. This is one reason I write exclusively in pencil now, unless I am forced to write in ink. Even then I have the ink that erases so I can fix letters that just look funky in my eyes.

#3. Do you have any weird phobias?

If I am at the beach I won't go in the water if I can't see the bottom. I don't have a fear of the water, but the critters that are in the water. The biting and stinging critters that could make a pleasant day at the beach end at the hospital. If I even feel something brush against my leg, my beach day is over.

#4. What's a song you secretly LOVE to blast & belt out when you're alone?

I love disco. Machine's There But For The Grace Of God Go I has always been one of my favorites, and I belt it out and dance like an idiot to it. Too much fun!

#5. What's one of your biggest pet peeves?

I can't stand mess. If one thing is out of place, suddenly my entire house is messy and I must clean. My boyfriend is a bit of a messy guy, so I am always picking things up after him, especially in the bedroom. We have a hamper for a reason, and sometimes it just doesn't sink in for him, haha.

#6. What's one of your nervous habits?

I pick at my cuticles. It is terrible, and makes my fingers look terrible, but I have done it since I was a child.

#7. What side of the bed do you sleep on?

Generally, in the middle, or wherever else I may crash. We have a king sized bed, so I can sleep totally diagonally and there still be room for three more people to make themselves one hundred percent comfortable. I have never been picky about having one side of the bed or the other.

#8. What was your first stuffed animal & it's name?

My first stuffed animal was a siamese cat that I called 'Boo Kitty' because it had blue eyes. I couldn't pronounce blue until I was maybe around four, but she was still Boo Kitty in my eyes. I still have her, in my closet ^.^

#9. What's the drink you ALWAYS order at starbucks?

I don't do Starbucks. It's overpriced for low quality coffee that tastes bad to me. Support your local coffee houses, people!

#10. What's the beauty rule you preach.. but never ACTUALLY practice?

I won't preach something I don't practice. It goes against my morals, and makes me feel like I am putting on a bad example.

#11. Which way do you face in the shower?

It depends on what portion of the shower you are talking about. I generally face away, since I hate getting water in my face.

#12. Do you have any 'weird' body 'skills'?

My fingers are double jointed. I can do this weird claw thing with my fingers. All of my fingers also bend back a lot more than what is apparently possible by most human beings. I never considered it unusual until I met someone who had fingers that didn't bend backwards XD

#13. What's your favorite 'comfort food'/food that's 'bad' but you love to eat it anyway?

Philly Cheese Steak anything. Be it the sandwich or the pizza from Domino's, I love it even though I can feel my blood pressure rising each time I eat one.

#14. What's a phrase or exclamation you always say?

I change out frequently, and make up a lot of words. Buttfluff has been a recent one, to avoid calling people more vulgar names. Example: "Listen here, buttfluff" rather than "Listen here, (insert vulgar name here)". Sometimes I overuse 'wicked' when something is awesome, or 'wicked cool'.

#15. Time to sleep- what are you ACTUALLY wearing?

An oversize U2 'War' album shirt. It goes to my knees and is the absolute in comfort. If I could wear it all of the time for the sake of comfort, I would.

Well, that is my list! Maybe one day I'll have a nice camera so I can start recording some of these tags on video :)

When Did Shoe Shopping Get So Hard?

Much to my great displeasure, my treasured pair of trackies (a pair of Adidas Superstars in black and pink) have finally blown out their shell top. After seven years of wear, four jobs, and many college functions, it is time to retire my favorite pair of kicks.

After wearing them for so long, I have grown accustomed to their fit and have been trying to find a new pair. It is easy to find the Superstar II. What isn't easy is finding that exact pair of black with the pink stripe. In the pink stripe you could see the classic adidas logo in different shades of pink. It was love at first sight when I first found them, and now I'm going nuts trying to find another pair.

When did it get so hard to find a new pair of shoes? I know this hunt would be much easier if I would settle for another pair of trackies, but I want these trackies, just like the pair I've got now.

I am going out of town for my birthday next Tuesday, so I am going to scour the Treasure Coast area for a pair, since I can't seem to find them on the internet. I hope I find something.

Crap Day With Funny End

Yesterday was one of the worst days I have had in a long time.

First off, I dropped my breakfast. I found a slice of school pizza that my mother had brought home in the fridge, so I figured it would be the breakfast of champions. School pizza is awesome. I made it half way to the microwave with it and I dropped it, cheese side down. I considered washing it off, but we have been spraying with flea poison, so it wouldn't have been a good idea.

After a not so awesome breakfast of a burrito, I went to brush my teeth. Somehow in the process I ended up with toothpaste in my eye. Of course it's not just the plain paste, it's the sort with little granules in it for scrubbing off any surface stains, so it burned like hell and was gritty.

I had a test to take for Business Calc, so off I go with a belly full of not so satisfying burrito and a red and irritated eye.

I had been studying for the test all week long, staying up really late on days I had off and spending every spare second of my time otherwise hitting the books, so I was super confident. I took my time, spending roughly an hour on this test, only to fail it spectacularly. I got a 35%. 7 out of 20 questions correct.

I left the school bummed and went straight to work, an hour early, so I could take out my frustrations cleaning the back room.

The day did improve after that (since all I do at work really is get paid to hang out).

The best part was when I checked my class grade when I got home: my failing test brought up my overall grade by 3 percentage points.

Go me.

This time I am working even harder. My final is in early December, so I have to bust my tail if I have a hope and a dream of bringing my grade high enough to pass the class. I must pass this class if I hope to graduate in the spring like I've been anticipating.

I can do this. All it will take is some extra hard work.

Winter Wardrobe

Today was a fantastic day. Not because I got to spend the day with my dear one (which was amazing as it waas), but because the cutest winter coat. The picture from the website is going to have to do, since I don't have a camera to take a picture with.

This was a great find from my local Walmart. It's faux wool coat made by George, and it cost me $28.47. I found it in the girls' department.

I am a petite girl. I am about 5ft 1inch (155cm) tall, and weigh about 110 (50kg), so I have a really hard time trying to find clothing in my small town. Walmart has almost no petite section, and the petites section at the Bealle's Outlet is filled with clothing that looks like a 70 year old woman would wear it, not a woman in their 20's. Generally my outlet is the girls' departments of my local stores, or majorly lucking out in the local Goodwill store.

For me, this coat was an amazing find. I normally wear a 10/12 in girls' clothes, but I got this in a 14/16 so I would have room for sweaters and other thick winter clothes when it gets cold. The best part is the length. On me, it lands just above my knees. Had I found this in the ladies' department, it probably would have come to my mid calf, which would make me look even shorter than I already am. That isn't counting the other proportions that would be off. My sewing skills aren't good enough to take a garnment completely apart to reconstruct it for my smaller body!

For those petite ladies out there who are on a budget like I am, I think this is definitely something worth checking out.

Now I have to find the perfect shoes an handbag! Anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking red heels ^.^

12 November 2011

So Close!

I submitted both my grad app and my information for spring commencement on Monday. Just think, in a few more months I will be a college graduate! My parents and sister never went to college, so it makes me proud to be the first of my immediate family to have gone to and graduated from college. So far, in my extended family, only five of us have gotten this far. I will be the fifth of my family to graduate.

School has been getting tougher and tougher. I've only got a month left, so I've really got to start getting my tail in gear. I am doing decently in all of my classes, though I think I can do better.

Tonight is going to be dedicated to finishing off my math homework and studying for this week's test. I've got to start my next programming assignment and finish off some other assignments that my professor wants me to resubmit because they weren't right on target. Then I should start research on my term paper (still don't know what I'm going to write about - probably Occupy Wall Street) and finish off my assignments for economics. I really need to end this semester on a high note and get the best marks possible.

Sometimes I wonder if anyone still reads this thing. I see page views in my statistics, but I'm not sure if it's my own page views when I pop in every now and again to check my c-box XD

05 November 2011

New Goodies and Holy Bujeebers!

First off, holy woah, the semester is almost over. I didn't realize this until my economics professor started laying out the schedule for the rest of the semester.

Then it hit me like a shit-ton of bricks.

I have so much to do for all of my classes and I don't feel like I have enough time.

Tonight is dedicated to studying while watching movies. First is Beauty and the Beast. Next is probably the Death Note movies again, then whatever is on Adult Swim tonight. Anime night! Yay! It's been so long since I've been able to stay up past midnight, I doubt I'll actually get to see any of my shows.

Now for my new finds.

A few days ago I watched a hair tutorial posted by Jen over at From Head to Toe (to check it out, go here). I have never been able to braid my own hair, but I finally did manage to get it done after multiple tries. Anyway, one of the products she used in the tutorial were Goody Spin Pins.

I have been curious about them for a while, but didn't ever think to buy them since I never really have any luck with the products that are supposed to make doing your hair easy. After watching Jen throw her hair into a bun so quickly and easily I decided to try them for myself, and I am glad I did. I have never been able to put my hair into a bun without using an elastic that would show. With these, I can do a simple bun with absolutely no issues. It doesn't fall down, either! These have become one of my newest favorite styling items.

On that trip to the market, I also got Hard Candy's World Balmination in Bridal Blush (around $3.00) and Physician's Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Shadow & Liner palette for hazel eyes (around $10).

First off, the Bridal Blush.

I know it looks very orange in this picture, but it is more nude than anything. I like it because it tones down the natural redness I have in my lips, and adds a nice touch of gloss. The downside is it doesn't last very long. I can't judge exactly how long the color lasts since there isn't much color apparent on my skin, though I did get an accurate idea by how quickly the overall glossy look diminishes. I've worn it to work a few times and have yet to see any sort of staying power. It isn't bad for $3.00.

I have yet to try the Physician's Formula shadow, mainly because I don't wear much makeup to work, though I had to share it.

This palette is designed to enhance hazel eyes. I don't have hazel eyes, but I got it anyway for that delicious pinkish purple in the middle. The picture simply doesn't do it justice. It is absolutely beautiful.

I need a new camera so I can share swatches and results! Maybe I will buy myself one for my birthday!

02 November 2011

Assignment and Movie Day

Had a second day off, so I spent it doing assignments and watching movies! Wonderful way to spend the day :)

Watching Sweeney Todd right now. Of course since I'm a sucker for music, I have to share my favorite song from the movie ^.^

I didn't get as much accomplished with my assignments as I would have hoped, though I did get a bit done. I kept getting stuck on my accounting, mainly because the program where our assignments are located is so flawed. You can have the correct values, and it will still mark things as incorrect. My professor is already well aware of this, so we will be graded on the amount of time spent on the different chapter assignments.

I still have to finish a program, though I did get the groundwork done today (the skeleton of the program, with comments where the functions will go once they are written), very basic code. It is due tomorrow night, so I've got plenty of time to get the functions written and put into the rest of the code. I have a feeling that this will be the easiest to code yet, simply for the fact that I have really studied the chapter.

The only thing that would have made this day better is rain.

01 November 2011

Trying Witch Hazel

My skin has been going nuts lately, and I can't figure out exactly what the cause is. I have tried various products that I've used in the past, but it still isn't stopping my breakouts.

My mother pointed me in the direction of something she used to use when she had breakouts: witch hazel.

On a trip to the Dollar Tree I found some and thought I would give it a try. My mother and I have very similar skin types, so if it worked for her I think it might work for me as well.

After I washed my face I applied some with a cotton ball, and I was amazed at the gunk that came off of my skin! I thought I had a great cleanser since it works wonders on blackheads, but it left behind so much! After the witch hazel I applied my regular moisturizer.

Generally I am oily about an hour or so after I wash my face and put on my moisturizer (normal thing for hot and humid Florida), though here we are about an hour and a half later and my skin feels just as clean as after I finished my nightly routine.

I won't have a full review of results for at least a week (I imagine that is how long it will take for my skin to clear), though I can already feel a distinct difference in my skin. I really hope this works.

I emailed my professor about the error I got when I submitted my quiz. Turns out I was in a panic over nothing (as usual).

Not only did my quiz register in the gradebook, but apparently it is my best quiz yet! Fantastic!

Now on to working on Assignment 7 (using functions!) and finishing off some math assignments (with some extra study).

I still have to get started on my term paper for Economics. He said that the paper doesn't necessarily have to be about something mentioned in the class, but anything that concerns economics. I think I want to explore the similarities between what is happening with the US economy now and what happened to the Japanese economy in the 1990's after their own housing bubble burst, and if there is a chance that the US could possibly go through it's own "Lost Decade". I need to discuss the idea with my professor first, since I have a feeling that I may be biting off more than I can chew with this.

I am behind with my accounting, but I don't have class tomorrow so I will use that time to get more done. I am nearly caught up, though not quite as on top of things as I would like to be.

Ok, no more procrastinating. Time to get things done.

*rageface*

So I spend thirty minutes working on a quiz for my programming class. I studied hard this time so I felt uber confident. I even went back and double checked my work.

After I hit submit I got an error message. "Error: cannot connect to server. Your work may not be saved."
