Song of the Night

Tonight we are going with some Kpop. I'm not getting very wordy tonight, like I have been other nights this week. Just let me say I love Amber. She's the shiz. Have I mentioned that she's damn hilarious? Yeah, I love this chick. This song, Shake That Brass, is from her solo debut Beautiful, which was released in February.

Women of Inspiration Wednesday

We've made it half way through the week. Yay!

Today was actually a very good day. My sister took me to two different doctors appointments and out to lunch and I didn't get sick once! I am really stoked. I don't have anymore headaches now that I have my new glasses, and my doctor was really pleased. I did have some tests run, so I may share the results once I have them. I should be called tomorrow.

Because I am so sick half of the time, I tend to get really down on myself. My bestie was feeling pretty down and out about her life situation too, so I showed her this video that I found last year and asked her to watch it with me because I felt really inspired by what this woman had to say. Meet Maysoon Zayid. She is a really funny lady, and has taken what life has given her and handed it it's ass.

Remember, no matter what life throws at you, yes you can can!

Have a great night, guys!

Song of the Night

I'm feeling a little nostalgic tonight. Did you guys ever watch the show The Adventures of Pete and Pete on Nickelodeon back when it didn't suck?

I used to be so into that show when I was a kid.

Here's the intro for you:

This made me fall in love with the band Polaris.

Of course I didn't realize it at the time was how many crazy awesome guest stars they would have on there. One of the ones I vividly remember was Iggy Pop, which was the coolest since I grew up listening to him and idolizing him.

Now that I've shown you that, time for the full song!

This is Hey Sandy by Polaris.

This is actually the only album they did, all composed of music from The Adventures of Pete and Pete.

Song of the Night

Since we had an actor last night, we are getting another one tonight!

If you've ever watched the show Community, I'm sure you know who Donald Glover is. You may have seen his stand up, which I totally relate to in a mad way since we are the same age. You can find his special, Weirdo, on Netflix here in the US.

Not only is he a great actor and hilarious comedian, he's also a writer and rapper. Unexpected, huh?

A girlfriend of mine turned me onto him a few years ago, and he's been on permanent rotation since then.

For tonight, we have Childish Gambino and Firefly.

Girls Day!

Yesterday was a great day. I had a little girls day with my sister and my bestie. I managed to get some really fun pictures.

It felt like high school all over again! Lots of bathroom selfies, lmao. If only we had camera phones back then!

Song of the Night

Tonight we are getting something a little different than the usual.

Did you know that Emily Kinney from The Walking Dead is also a singer?

This song, Expired Lover, is from her first release of the same title.

The album is full of great songs, this one has to be my favorite of the lot!

Adventures With Sheet Masks

I hadn't done a sheet mask in years. Since I've been ordering from W2beauty.com and Wishtrend, I've gotten several that I've been dying to try, I just didn't know how my new piercing would handle it. This is a mask that I got as a bonus from Alice at W2Beauty.

Last night I said screw it and did it anyway, with a little modification ^^

I used The Saem Snail Essential Gel Mask Sheet. Like an idiot, I forgot to take a picture before I ripped that sucker open to put on my face.

This is a Korean product that offers rich moisture for the skin. It's also got regenerative properties!

This is the first time I've ever had anything with snail essence. I was showing my boyfriend and he had to make the great joke that my face was covered in snail jizz. Pfft.

To use this product, wash your face like usual and apply your toner. After that, apply your mask.

This is what it looks like on. I rolled the nose up instead of pulling it down so it wouldn't get into my piercing. I'm not sure how it would react!

The gel itself feels very smooth, and the mask sticks on very easily. It did feel a little cooling, which was great since it's been so hot lately!

After 20 minutes (it said 20 to 25 on the package), I pulled it off and gently massaged the rest of the gel into my face.

My skin felt great after taking it off and letting the serum dry in a little. For a little extra oomph, I added my Tatcha Moisture Rich Silk Cream because I'm a moisture whore.

I can definitely see a difference in how my skin looks, and it feels very soft. The only side effect is my boyfriend saying snail jizz.

I also have some other snail essence samples that Alice sent me that I can't wait to try. I really like the way my skin feels!

Have you tried anything with snail essence? If you have, what did you think of the experience?

Song of the Night

I remembered on time tonight!

Tonight is going to be a two for one!

I love Cheech and Chong, and I've been in a huge comedy mood, so we are getting two things from them that make me laugh myself to death every time I hear them!

Tommy Chong reminds me so much of my dad its crazy! I miss him so much.

And for our second song, one of my favorite scenes from Up In Smoke!

Ok, now I'm off to watch Born in East L.A.!

What are some of your favorite funny movies or comedians?

I Love Odd Socks

Another one of my collections is a drawer full of strange printed socks.

My mother always finds the coolest socks. I've got socks for every holiday, Jake the Dog from Adventure Time (they got me through the winter I broke my ankle!), Tardis knee highs, argyle of every color, enough Hello Kitty socks to keep my feet warm for years.

I've had the chance to add another cool pair to my collection!

Late Song of the Night

I got distracted again watching Sensory Couple. OMG, someone who watches please chat with me about these last two episodes! I'm flailing with no one else to fan girl with!!

Feeling something classic tonight, so we have the Andrews Sisters! This song is called Three Little Sisters, and it's one of my all time favorite songs. Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong time, or reincarnated and died a tragic way so I have a deep attachment to the era. It's unusual, I may do a post about it later, but ever since I was a child I have had this preoccupation with World War II. While the other kids were playing, I was the one with my head in a history book.

My 90s Style

A peek into some of the ridiculous stuff I used to wear as a teenager. Yes, I wore all of this type of thing, generally at one time, and I felt like I was on top of the world.

What on earth made me think this type of thing was cool?

I can say I still love ck be. That stuff smelled amazeballs.

My 90s Style

Song of the Night

Another day trapped in bed thanks to this monster cold. Talked to my dad, and apparently he had the same problem every year this time of year when he was living her in SoFl.

Not much for Kanye anymore, but still a fan of his earlier albums. Like as in the first two. So tonight we get some Kanye when he was still good in my opinion.

Song of the Night

I can't believe I forgot tonight's song! I got sucked into The Village, a movie I haven't seen before. I know, it's probably considered old at this point. It wasn't bad. It wasn't the best, but it wasn't bad.

I'm in a game mood, so tonight's music is from the Final Fantasy X soundtrack, Servants of the Mountain.

This is one of my sleepy time songs. It relaxes me so much <3

Treat Your Self 2015!

I am like crazy happy right now. I just got a gift card from a review I did in the past, and now I don't know what to do with it!

I know I have two different things that must be done: I'm buying my sister a Rob Zombie shirt like the one she had to leave behind when she and her ex-husband split, and an Otep shirt for my nephew.

He's got Asperger's Syndrome, which on the high end of the autism spectrum. One of the things that falls under this category is the inability to communicate and socialize effectively. Yes, he communicates. The boy never shuts up. But he can't seem to get on that same level with the other kids on a more social level. He's a lot smarter than the peers in his class, and has a brain that can hold so much information it's insane. I can remember looking at a bird picture book when he was two, and rather than telling me the common names for all of the birds, he went through and gave me all of the scientific names. Unfortunately, the school he is in is not experienced with dealing with high end autistic children and they have put him in a class filled with mostly low end students that are doing work that is one or two grade levels lower than what he should be doing. Taking this into account, he gets bored very easily, and when he gets bored he can get destructive. This has led to him getting into tons of trouble, even getting to the point that he actually told his teacher that he wanted to kill himself. This isn't something that a ten year old needs to be saying.

While I was browsing through shirts, I found the perfect shirt that says "you are not alone" on it, to remind him that no matter how bad it gets, he's not alone. He still has his family that loves him and cares about him enough to try to get him into a better school, and not take any crap from the teachers who have been bullying him. He assistant principal has been pushing him and pushing him, trying to get my sister to take him out of that school and move him to a school an hour away.

Fuck that noise.

So between those shirts, that's going to kill around $80 I imagine, maybe $60 if I'm lucky.

Since I've already got my doctor's appointment covered (thanks, mom, I love you!), I'm going to end up using the rest of this to spoil the crap out of myself.

The first thing I want to do is get my nails done.

I want Adore Delano nails!

A photo posted by Adore Delano (@adoredelano) on

I also want to spoil myself at my favorite online stores, like Wishtrend, W2Beauty, and Klenspop or Lens Circle. I know I want some new lenses. I saw some on a person the other day on instagram and they were amazing. Looked like hurricane eyes!

This is one of my absolute favorite creams, and I plan on getting some from Wistrend. It is great - it exfoliates your face as you sleep, and kicks blackheads to the curb. I even wake up feeling fresh as far as my face goes. I usually wake up with oily face if I use the wrong moisturizer, and this kicks that in the butt.

I'm so happy right now that I don't even know what to get for myself other than nails and that cream.

I'll eventually come down from my high and pick something!

Song of the Night

I've been in bed all day again, watching videos all day. Feeling like total crud.

Tonight we have some AC/DC.

Kylie Jenner Challenge, WTF?

So apparently over the last week or so something has popped up on Twitter and Instagram where people are trying all of the wrong ways to get Kylie Jenner lips. Just in case you haven't seen the lovely hashtags, it's when people stick their lips into a hairspray cap, shot glass, or any other contraption where they can create suction and basically suck the air out of the container and it swells their lips up.

I've seen contraptions before made for this purpose and didn't think much of them because I have naturally full lips.

I never really thought much of this Kylie Jenner challenge thing because I have naturally full lips. It's when the injuries started to roll in that I couldn't believe that people are risking personal injury all in the name of plush lips.

For the record, Toxy did her lips right - in a surgeon's office.
What fucks me up about the whole thing is people are using glass and actually slicing their lips open.

Don't worry, I'm not going to post any pictures here, even though the nursing student side of me is weirdly fascinated with them.

I saw a brutal picture earlier on instagram shared by Sharon Needles of a guy that had part of his top lip sliced out.

Yes, sliced out. Like going to need plastic surgery to fix it sliced out.

For the curious, you can see the image on Sharon's instagram.

So that case is rather extreme.

There are also injuries that aren't as extreme, but just as awful.

While the effect of this lasts anywhere from a few hours to a few days, even after the swelling goes down there are people that experience severe bruising around their lip area. Looks like one giant hickey all over their lips.

And I'm all over here like:

There are so many ways to achieve that look without damaging your body! You're basically busting capillaries in your face for an effect that won't even last that long, and you'll be taking care of the aftermath of the damage for longer than you had those damn puffy lips.

There are plenty of women out there with natural, beautiful full lips. This isn't some new thing.

Have we forgotten about Angelina Jolie? She was my idol in high school, but I can damn well say I'm happy I never tried any home made device to make my pout look like hers. The most I ever did was get lipstick with ingredients that give you a "bee stung" look. Don't waste your money, that stuff is terrible.

What about the always beautiful Rihanna? If you look closely, you can see that even she has over exaggerated her bottom lip with makeup. Not some dumb ass device or at home trick. Simply makeup. Even without it, she has a gorgeous pout.

Even Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Lovely full lips enhanced by color and gloss.

After seeing this whole challenge shoved in my face, I had to get this off of my chest.

For now, don't be stupid. If you want fuller lips, learn how to do it with makeup, not by sucking your face off in a shot glass. Have a surgeon do it if you are in the position to do so. Don't do it yourself. There are some terrible repercussions you could face.

How Do You Use Lavender Oil?

I absolutely love lavender oil. My aunt has always been into using essential oils for all sorts of things around the house. One of my favorite memories of going to her house was when she would put different scents on a cotton ball and put it in a little holder on top of lamp in the living room. As the lamp heated up, the lovely smells would fill the house.

As I grew older, I started to experiment with essential oils myself. My favorite has always been lavender.

Through Tomoson, I was able to try a bottle of aVo Essentials Premium Lavender Oil. Click that link and it will take you directly to the Amazon page where you may purchase this product.

Song of the Night

Another new episode of Drag Race is on tonight, so we are going with RuPaul and Martha Wash for tonight's song!

How disappointed are you that Max is gone now? I almost cried when it happened. I lived for Max!

At least I still have Ginger Minj. Bitch is gunnin for that top three. Love you, my Florida sister!

Weight Struggles + A New Plan

I've never been one who was into working out. Even in the depths of my eating disorder it wasn't about getting that runner's high or any sort of adrenaline high, whatever. It was solely for the purpose of burning calories because I wasn't thin enough.

Since I've been all but housebound, I've decided I need to do something about my weight. Having limited activities means that I have packed on pounds like no one's business. I'm currently at my highest weight ever, which I really don't want to share since I'm really embarrassed by it.

So I've started to make some changes because I'm really beginning to hate how I look. None of my clothes fit anymore, so I'm down to wearing nothing but yoga pants or scrubs and a tank top or this really comfy tunic top my bestie gave me.

My first step was to stop drinking soda.

I haven't noticed much weight loss per say in pounds, but I can definitely say I don't feel bloated anymore because I'm not consuming all of the sugar. I'm not sure if it was all bloat, but I think my tummy has flattened out a bit, too. That's just one week with no soda. My bestie decided to go on this water flush, so I joined in and started doing it with her. The only caffeine I consume is in my morning coffee. Other than that I drink mostly water and a lot of different teas with honey. Echinacea is my favorite right now because I'm fighting off a cold, but I love green tea too. That I tend to drink unsweetened because I enjoy the flavor.

I've noticed now that I've stopped drinking soda and just drink water or tea is I crave water.

My next step in my plan is to start incorporating little workouts other than just doing house work. That can be considered a workout in it's own right, but I think I need to do more.

I discovered this person on youtube, Joanna Soh, that has some really great workouts, so I've been doing those for a few days now.

I can already feel a difference in my arms!

I'm going to share a few of my favorite videos that she's done. I love the "work out with me" videos the most!

This first one is for arms and back, nothing needed but a towel!

Since my tummy is my other problem area, my other favorite is her beginner ab work out.

I really enjoy her videos, and hope to trim up by working out at home!

Sick: Let's Marathon Dramas!

For two days now I've been crazy sick. Yesterday wasn't so bad, but today has been nothing but running fever and a running nose. My poor nose is raw from blowing and wiping it :(

So for two days now I've been holed up in my room for the most part marathoning shows on Drama Fever

I had been working through Emergency Couple since I love my medical dramas, but I watched too much at one time and got burned out.

Song of the Night

I think I've already posted all about how much I love Jinkx Monsoon, and the fact that she now has an album!

The Inevitable Album from Jinkx Monsoon has all sorts of things for everyone, I think.

Tonight's song is the first song released on her album, Coffee and Wine.

16 April 2015

Song of the Night

This is one of the songs I loved when I was a kid, but really started to understand the meaning as I got older. I love Tracy Chapman. She's amazing.

Wishtrend Haul

Ever since my first experience with Wishtrend, I knew I would be back for more. They have such  a wide range of products that make me excited it was only natural to do a full blown haul!

My main reason for the haul was for hair color. I wanted to color my hair and was enticed by the coffee bubble colors from Confume. Hair color I've bought recently here in the states has really disappointed me, and it smells like coffee. I'm a coffee addict, so what more could I ask for?

I've also been in the market for a new eyeliner. I prefer liquid, and what I had just wasn't cutting it. The Wet n Wild wasn't bad, I just found it hard to apply because of the applicator brush being a bit stiff. Same with the Cover Girl liner, it was almost like a magic marker yet the tip wasn't as flexible as I had hoped.

This Rivecowe flexible liquid brushpen eyeliner is an amazing liner. It has the best brush tip I've ever used. It even inspired me to get into full beat! To see the look in full face, go to my instagram!

Having already tried one sort of lip tattoo, I wanted to try another. I've seen reviews all around the blogs lately about Berrisom My Lip Tint Pack and I had to try it for myself. I got it in Sexy Red, which is a pure red, and Virgin Red, a real red. I used it today and ended up layering my Kyoto Red from Tatcha on top of it. It makes a great base for it, and makes it last even longer than expected!

These also came with a My Lip Patch as a bonus gift, and I can't wait to use them. I've seen photos of people using them on other blogs and it excites me like crazy!

My last bit was a hair brush from Eyecandy. As silly as it sounds, I needed one since I haven't brushed my hair in so long I can't remember the last time I used a brush. My kids steal them and leave me to finger through my hair or use a comb if I'm desperate.

Peek a Ru, I see you!

This brush is a volume brush. It's got the strange looking bristles because it introduces air into the hair and makes it have more volume and bounce. It didn't do much for my hair other than make it silky and smooth. My sister, who has very curly hair, used it and it fluffed her mane right out. I love her ringlets so much I'd definitely trade my Cher straight hair for her curls!

My daughter already has her eye on it, and I told her she can't take this one and say that her grandmother bought it for her because it's not something you can find around here!

As always, you always get free gifts with every order from Wishtrend!

I was crazy excited to get more of the B-Salic 2.0 cream (a future purchase waiting to happen), and a mask sheet. My nose needs to finish healing before I can dig into theses masks!

Do you buy from Wishtrend? What are your favorite products?

Inspiration and Song of the Night

When I was in my teen years, I had this obsession with Cabaret. I collected records at the time, and found an original cast recording during one of my record hunts. I listened to it so much I'm surprised the record didn't snap in half!

Then I found a copy with the ever great Liza Minnelli in the five dollar DVD bin at my local Walmart and was all over it. Finally putting a face with these characters - remember, this was a time before Youtube - made me fall in love even more.

I practically wanted to be Sally.

I obsessively wore green nail polish ("I think it's pretty! I think it's pretty, I reply!), would hunt down cabaret-esque lingerie in my local thrift stores, and learned all of the choreography.

Of course I have a terrible singing voice, but that doesn't matter. Sally, as she was originally written, did not have a fantastic singing voice. Liza was an amazing Sally, she just wasn't the Sally that John Kander wrote. I was still in love, I cared not.

I wanted it all, from the rosy cheeks to dramatic lashes.

How can you not just die over those lashes?

I even got false nails and wore them long like that since, at the time I was incredibly ill (story of my life) and my nails peeled back from malnutrition. But that is a story for another day!

I fondly remember finding a vest just like that at Goodwill, made by Bebe I believe, and making some hot pants just like those. Garters, stockings, the whole shebang, just without the hat because I couldn't find one at a thrift store. Just another depressing bit about growing up in a poorer family, I lived in the Goodwill. It had it's perks - I had clothes that no one else in school had other than my bestie, who shopped Goodwill right beside me. Wearing a Christian Dior men's tuxedo shirt as a dress? Yes, please!

As a surprise for my 18th birthday, one of my best childhood friends took me to see the show on stage. He made me think that we had tickets all the way in the back of the theatre, but in the end we were front row center. It is one of my fondest memories to this day. On the way home we sang through the entire cast recording as well as an entire Edith Piaf album. I walked around in a haze for days afterward!

Fun fact: did you know that Liza cut her own hair for the role because she felt Sally would have short hair? She also designed the makeup look for Sally!

For tonight's song, we have one of my favorite numbers from Cabaret. I'm going with the movie because Liza was, and still is, a huge inspiration for me.

If you ever have the opportunity to see this on Broadway, or with a touring cast, I greatly encourage it! Not only does the story drag you in, but the dancing! *sigh* I loved the dancing.

Have a great night, everyone!
